According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, free-agent guard C.J. Wilcox will sign a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Rumor Central

Two-way contracts are new this season after being included in the 2017 collective bargaining agreement between the NBA owners and the players. A player signed to a two-way contract can be with an NBA team for up to 45 days during the season and doesn't count toward the salary cap, or luxury tax, which makes the Wilcox signing a good deal for the Blazers. Portland is currently over the tax line by $2.9 million and owe $4.39 million.

The Blazers have the ability to reduce their tax bill by waiving guard Pat Connaughton and playing most of the season with 14 players signed to NBA contracts.

Wilcox, the No. 28 pick in the 2014 NBA draft by the LA Clippers, was waived by the Orlando Magic on Apr. 3. In three years in the NBA, Wilcox has made just a combined 66 appearances with the Clippers and Magic. In 2016-17, Wilcox averaged one point with the Magic.
