The Detroit Pistons were in need of shooters going into the offseason, which is why they chose Duke's Luke Kennard with the No. 12 selection in the NBA draft. Kennard performed well during the Orlando Summer League and offseason workouts, which has impressed head coach Stan Van Gundy.

"I think it's going to be really hard to keep him off the floor. We've got good depth at the wings, so it's [also] possible he could end up out of the rotation," Van Gundy told The Detroit News. "He's just really good. He's got great skills, he can shoot and pass -- which are two great things -- and he's just got a very good feel for the game, reading the defense."

With training camp open, Kennard is at best fifth on the backcourt depth chart and behind Avery Bradley and Langston Galloway at shooting guard.

If Kennard doesn't get any run from Van Gundy early in the season, the Pistons may decide to have the rookie play some games in the G League, like forward Henry Ellenson did in 2016-17, with the Grand Rapids Drive.
