ESPN 300 OLB Erick Fowler flips from LSU to Texas

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU’s top-rated recruiting class took a hit Wednesday morning when outside linebacker Erick Fowler announced he was flipping from the Tigers to home-state Texas.

The No. 132 overall prospect on the ESPN 300 and No. 9 outside linebacker, Fowler had been committed to LSU for months, but a flip seemed inevitable in the days leading up to signing day.

Fowler received heavy attention from Texas coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns of late. He officially visited Texas two weekends ago and accepted an in-home visit from Strong.

Sure enough, when he and several Manor High School teammates announced their college decisions Wednesday, Fowler invited his family on stage and donned a Texas cap, officially confirming that he would stay home and play for the Longhorns.

Fowler’s announcement continues Strong’s signing-day roll, as Fowler is among a host of ESPN 300 honorees who are late additions to the Texas class -- a group that also includes safety Brandon Jones, defensive tackles Chris Daniels and Marcel Southall, and running back Kyle Porter.
