Jayhawks nab Jersey receiver

High three-star wide receiver Ishmael Hyman (Holmdel, N.J./St. John Vianney) committed Friday to play in the Big 12 for head coach Charlie Weis and Kansas, multiple sources report.

Hyman, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior, made an official visit to campus last weekend. He was recruited by Kansas assistant Rob Ianello.

Boston College, UMass, Rutgers, Syracuse, Bowling Green, Temple, Villanova, James Madison, Old Dominion, Buffalo, Monmouth and Purdue were his other scholarship offers. Programs such as Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Penn State showed interest.

ESPN writes in his evaluation, "Considering Hyman's height he is a very fluid and smooth player... is a short and deep target at this stage and is very good at plucking on the move on underneath routes and hitting the seam quickly... has tools and his frame is only going to fill out and get stronger and he'll need to in order to handle press coverage and get downfield."

This spring, he posted a 4.35 20-yard shuttle, 27.9-inch vertical and 67.86 SPARQ on the Nike Combine circuit.

Hyman is the highest-rated high school verbal for Kansas, which has focused its efforts toward junior college prospects. The Jayhawks have 22 total pledges for 2013.
