EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants waived defensive backs Cooper Taylor and Bennett Jackson on Tuesday as they reduced their roster to the NFL-mandated 75 players.

Jackson was a 2014 sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame. He struggled with knee injuries, missing each of the past two seasons, and was buried on the depth chart this summer. He started the summer at safety before being shifted to cornerback, his college position.

Taylor was the Giants’ fifth-round pick out of Richmond in the 2013 draft. He also struggled with injuries throughout his time with the team and was even released last year. He was re-signed later in the season.

The Giants also released wide receivers KJ Maye and Kadron Boone, cornerback Joe Powell, defensive tackles Davon Coleman and Greg Milhouse, running back Marshaun Coprich, defensive end Mike Rose and running back Shane McDermott.

Offensive tackle Byron Stingily (concussion) was placed on injured reserve and tight end Ryan Malleck (stinger) was waived/injured. Both players were injured during Tuesday's practice.

None of the players released Tuesday were much of a surprise. Milhouse, an undrafted rookie out of Campbell, started the summer strong but tapered off. Coleman had received some second-team defensive snaps but was trying to win a job at a crowded position. Montori Hughes, Jermelle Cudjo and Louis Nix III remain in the running for the fourth and final defensive tackle spot.

The Giants' roster stands at 74 players until the signing of offensive tackle Will Beatty becomes official. Beatty is re-signing with the team after being released earlier this year.
