EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants were thin at linebacker by the end of Tuesday's practice.

Starting middle linebacker B.J. Goodson (sore back) left practice early after colliding with a teammate while covering a route near the end zone. He remained on the sideline and later chatted with coach Ben McAdoo.

Goodson's injury did not appear serious.

Starting strongside linebacker Devon Kennard (soreness) was also limited. That presented opportunities for Curtis Grant, Calvin Munson and Stansly Maponga to work with the first team.

Short on numbers at the linebacker position even before taking the field Tuesday, the Giants signed Steven Daniels. He was a seventh-round draft choice last year by the Washington Redskins out of Boston College.

The Giants made another roster move later Tuesday when veteran defensive tackle Corbin Bryant was placed on injured reserve. He suffered a dislocated elbow on Monday, a source told ESPN, and was replaced on the active roster by Bobby Richardson.

Richardson is on his fifth professional team. He played 15 games for the New Orleans Saints in 2015.

Tuesday's practice did mark the return of running back Shaun Draughn and linebacker J.T. Thomas, who were were activated from the physically unable to perform list. But they were extremely limited participants in their first practice of the summer.

It's unlikely they will be ready for Monday night, but there is time for them to earn roles. Thomas has been sidelined since tearing his knee covering a kick in Week 1 last season against the Dallas Cowboys.

"He's working through individuals (drills) and we'll have a plan to build him up as we go," McAdoo said. "We're not going to rush into anything with him.

Safety Landon Collins (illness), wide receiver Darius Powe (hamstring), offensive lineman Adam Gettis (eye), safeties Ryan Murphy (lower body) and Duke Ihenacho (hamstring) and wide receiver Kevin Snead (lower body) also missed practice for the Giants on Tuesday.
