Jeurys Familia expects to miss weekend, avoid DL

ATLANTA -- After testing his tight left groin on Saturday afternoon, closer Jeurys Familia indicated that he expects to be sidelined through the weekend then potentially be ready to resume pitching when the New York Mets open a series Tuesday in Milwaukee.

Familia's groin issue arose on his final two pitches of the eighth inning on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves.

He has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication but has not undergone an MRI. Familia does not believe he will land on the disabled list.

"I feel better today, but I still feel it," Familia said. "So I want to take a day off today. I'm not going to pitch tonight. And we'll see how I feel tomorrow. It's a little tight. ... One, two, three days, I'll be OK."

Bobby Parnell is likely to close if the Mets have a save chance on Saturday.
