Alex Torres clears waivers, sent to Vegas

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Left-hander Alex Torres has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas by the New York Mets.

Torres, 27, was designated for assignment late Tuesday when the Mets acquired Eric O'Flaherty from the Oakland Athletics.

Torres was acquired from the San Diego Padres on the eve of the regular season for minor league right-handers Cory Mazzoni and Brad Wieck.

Torres had a 3.15 ERA, but also walked 26 batters in 34 1/3 innings. Lefty batters had a .268 average against Torres.
