LOS ANGELES -- New York Mets rookie left-hander Steven Matz has been included on the roster for the division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Matz is on track to start Game 4.
The Mets are satisfied that Matz's back spasms are behind him. He tossed an 88-pitch simulated game on Thursday in Port St. Lucie, Florida. It was his first game-type setting since Matz faced the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 24.
Matz is expected to join the team in New York to avoid having two unnecessary cross-country trips for games in which he is not scheduled to pitch.
The Mets had flown Sean Gilmartin with the team to Los Angeles to serve in the bullpen in case Matz was not ready, with Bartolo Colon on standby to step into the rotation.
The 25-man roster:
Rotation
Matz
Bullpen
Colon
Game 1 starting position players
Bench
The Mets also have seven reserves continuing to work out in case they are needed as an injury replacement or for future rounds: Gilmartin, Logan Verrett, Carlos Torres, Bobby Parnell, Eric Campbell, Anthony Recker and Eric Young Jr.
