          Dilson Herrera, four Mets farmhands to compete in WBC qualifiers

          VIERA, Fla. -- Second baseman Dilson Herrera is due to depart camp on Monday to represent his native Colombia in a qualifying tournament in Panama City for the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

          Among New York Mets minor-leaguers, catcher Xorge Carrillo (Mexico), right-hander Nabil Crismatt (Colombia), left-hander Alberto Baldonado (Panama) and shortstop Luis Guillorme (Spain) also are scheduled to participate in the qualifying tournaments.

          Carrillo had been due to join Herrera in major league camp this spring training. However, Carrillo suffered a fractured hand in the Mexican League championship series this offseason and instead reported directly to the minor-league side.

          With Colombia, France, Panama and Spain competing in the same qualifying tournament in Panama City, Herrera, Crismatt, Baldonado and Guillorme will stay at the same hotel during the March 17-20 event.

          Carrillo will be in Mexicali, Mexico, as his native country competes with the Czech Republic, Germany and Nicaragua for a berth in the 2017 WBC.

          Carrillo was born in Mexico and moved to Arizona as a teenager. Herrera, Crismatt and Baldonado were born in the countries they will represent. The slick-fielding Guillorme, who is on Friday's trip to face the Washington Nationals, hails from Florida. Guillorme's grandparents are from Spain. He has dual citizenship and a Spanish passport.
