Minors 6.23.16: Harol Gonzalez flirts with no-hitter in Cyclones' loss

LAS VEGAS at RENO: Box

ALTOONA 9, BINGHAMTON 6: Starter Josh Zeid allowed five runs (four earned) in five innings. In his Double-A debut, newly promoted Amed Rosario lined a pinch-hit double down the left-field line and scored on Derrik Gibson's single to cut the deficit to 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth. Gibson went 4-for-5 with two RBIs in the loss. Binghamton has dropped six straight games. Box

PALM BEACH 3, ST. LUCIE 2: St. Lucie starter Andrew Church tossed a complete game, but it wasn’t enough in the second-half opener. Cardinals center fielder Blake Drake scaled the wall to rob Jhoan Urena of a two-run homer in the sixth that would have put the Mets ahead 4-3. Then, an inning later, John Mora singled into right field with two outs, but Jhohan Acevedo threw out Tomas Nido as the tying run at the plate to end the inning. Church needed 91 pitches to navigate the full nine innings. He scattered eight hits, walked one, hit a batter and struck out four. It was the first time this season that a St. Lucie starter pitched nine innings. Nido went 3-for-3 in the loss. Vinny Siena, who was promoted from Columbia earlier in the day, went 0-for-4 with a walk as the leadoff hitter. He played second base, while Luis Guillorme shifted to his customary shortstop position with Rosario promoted to Binghamton. Left-hander P.J. Conlon was also promoted from Columbia. He will start Friday. Box

AUGUSTA 6, COLUMBIA 3: Starter Joe Shaw allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. Augusta built a 5-1 lead after three innings. Box

ELIZABETHTON 4, KINGSPORT 3: Starter Thomas Szapucki struck out 13 and limited the Twins to two hits in six scoreless innings. But Elizabethton produced four eighth-inning runs, including a pair of homers, against Gregorix Estevez to rally for the win in the season opener. Box

CONNECTICUT 3, BROOKLYN 2: Brooklyn starter Harol Gonzalez carried a no-hit bid into the seventh, but the Tigers made the most of their two hits. Connecticut scratched out a run on a wild pitch in the sixth and took a 3-0 lead in the seventh when Brooklyn reliever Taylor Henry allowed a pair of runners inherited from Gonzalez to score. Brooklyn rallied in the eighth against Jose Fuentes. Jacob Zanon drew a leadoff walk. Two batters later, Ali Sanchez singled. Jay Jabs then worked the count full before drilling a single to right field with the runners in motion, scoring Zanon and moving Sanchez to third. Brandon Brosher's sacrifice fly pulled Brooklyn within a run, but the rally stalled there. Box
