LAS VEGAS 2, FRESNO 1: The 51s won their sixth straight game to open a three-game division lead over Sacramento. Matt Fox limited Fresno to one run on six hits and no walks while striking out a season-high nine in seven innings. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a sacrifice fly and Zach Lutz produced an RBI double in a two-run third inning. Box BINGHAMTON 10, AKRON 2: Darin Gorski faced one over the minimum through seven innings and Cory Vaughn and Xorge Carrillo each drove in three runs as the B-Mets matched a franchise record with win No. 82. Gorski surrendered a one-out single to Tyler Holt in the second, then retired 17 straight Aeros. He struck out seven and required 10 or fewer pitches in four different innings. He needed only 70 pitches for seven scoreless frames. Binghamton gave Gorski a three-run lead before he took the mound. Facing rehabbing major leaguer Brett Myers, the B-Mets benefited from shaky Akron fielding. Second baseman Ronny Rodriguez booted the first ball in play, allowing Danny Muno to reach. Josh Rodriguez and Vaughn then singled, giving the B-Mets a 1-0 lead. Allan Dykstra's single loaded the bases for Travis Taijeron, who produced a run-scoring groundout. Vaughn scored the B-Mets’ third run when shortstop Jose Ramirez threw away Carrillo’s grounder. Reliever Enosil Tejeda replaced Myers after the second misplay and induced Wilfredo Tovar to bounce into an inning-ending double play. The B-Mets tacked on a run in the second against Will Roberts. Following a walk to Muno, Josh Rodriguez tripled. Binghamton blew the game open with a six-run sixth, highlighted by two-run singles from Vaughn and Carrillo. Gorski walked Holt to open the eighth. After a single and a two-out walk, Ramirez ended Gorski’s night with a two-run single. Hamilton Bennett took over and fanned Ronny Rodriguez to end the inning. Bennett tossed a perfect ninth. Gorksi (5-1) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in 7 2/3 innings. Myers (1-2) was charged with three runs (one earned). He threw only 16 pitches to six batters in the loss. Gorski has gone seven innings or more in five of his last six starts. Dykstra notched his 100th walk, reaching triple-digits for the second time in his career (also 104, Fort Wayne Tin Caps, 2009). SAVANNAH 6, WEST VIRGINIA 1: In Game 1, the Power scored three runs in the top of the ninth against Beck Wheeler (1-6). Jake Kuebler had tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Tim Peterson. Catcher Albert Cordero threw out four baserunners -- two on stolen-base attempts and two on pickoffs at first base. In Game 2, Steven Matz took a scoreless effort into the sixth. He ultimately was charged with one run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Brandon Nimmo had a two-run double in the sixth. Box 1, Box 2 BLUEFIELD 6, KINGSPORT 1: Starter Persio Reyes allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings. Box BROOKLYN 2, VERMONT 0: Robert Gsellman struck out a career-high 13 over eight scoreless innings. The strikeout total matched the third most in franchise history, and marked the most by a Brooklyn pitcher since Brad Holt tied the franchise mark with 14 punchouts on July 24, 2008, also against Vermont. After pounding out a season-high 10 runs on Friday night, the Brooklyn bats picked up where they left off. In the first, Gavin Cecchini singled and L.J. Mazzilli produced his second homer of the season for a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half, Gsellman surrendered a leadoff bunt single, then retired the next 12 batters he faced. The 20-year-old did not allow a runner to reach second base all game. He allowed three baserunners during his outing. Johnny Magliozzi pitched a scoreless ninth to collect his seventh save. With the win, the Cyclones (33-31) moved within a half-game of Aberdeen for the McNamara Division lead with 11 games remaining. Box GCL NATIONALS 2, GCL METS 0: Starter Yoryi Nuez (2-2) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine in six innings. The Mets mustered only four hits.
