ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The busiest team in the NFL since free agency began on March 14 stayed true to its script on draft weekend, with the Oakland Raiders making seven trades, selecting nine players and continuing to revamp the roster under returning coach Jon Gruden. With an assist, of course, from general manager Reggie McKenzie. "Well it's been said, I think by both of us, that we're going to collaborate on the decisions that are made and I really give him a lot of credit," Gruden said. "He fielded phone calls. I fielded phone calls. We exchanged information and we talked about the consequences of not making a trade, talking about the reality of what happens if we do make the trade. It was a good, I think, communication throughout the process and we did what's best for this football team and we just got to see what happens when these young men get here. I realize we're going to have our skeptics. "We took two guys that were from small colleges, but so were Willie Brown and Art Shell and Howie Long and other great players that have come through here. We don't discriminate from people just because they didn't play at Notre Dame or USC or in the Pac-12 or SEC. But it was a great effort I think by everybody and Reggie deserves a lot of credit."  McKenzie said it was "fun" dealing with Gruden.
"The one thing that this staff has, they have a vision," McKenzie said. "They know exactly what they want, what they need and what will help them be successful. They communicated really well. I thought it was really good the way the scouts and coaches interacted, myself and Gruden included." The Raiders currently list 85 players on their 90-man offseason roster and will hold a rookie minicamp this weekend.
