Halfway through preseason, 49ers dealing with increasing injuries

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Like all of the other 31 teams in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers have their share of bumps and bruises as they head toward the third preseason game Friday night against the Green Bay Packers.

Earlier in this camp, the 49ers lost nose tackle Ian Williams (ankle), receiver Eric Rogers (knee) and quarterback Thad Lewis (knee) for the season.

They've also been hit by other ailments, though fortunately many of those don't appear to be too serious. Here's a quick rundown of where the Niners are from a health perspective:

• Quarterback Colin Kaepernick did everything during the individual drills in practice, the first time he'd done even that much since dealing with shoulder tightness on Aug. 10. It looked to be a good sign that he'll be able to practice this week and play against Green Bay on Friday but how much he throws and what unit he works with in practice won't be known until later.

• The Niners have been hit particularly hard at receiver, where they're already without Rogers. DeAndre Smelter (hamstring) and Bryce Treggs (knee) were not participating in Monday's practice. Smelter hasn't played in either preseason game, and Treggs suffered his injury in Saturday's game against Denver. Andre Ellington had been battling an ankle issue but was on the field for the individual part of Monday's practice. The addition of more depth at this position wouldn't be a surprise.

• Running back Shaun Draughn, who did not participate in Saturday's game after suffering a rib injury in practice against Denver last week, was wearing a blue no-contact jersey during Monday's practice.

• Linebacker Nick Bellore is out with a knee sprain, the 49ers said on Monday. The injury will not require surgery but there's no timetable yet for a return.

• Cornerback Will Redmond and defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey, both of whom are recovering from ACL injuries, still haven't appeared in a preseason game. Defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil said Monday he wasn't sure when either would get back in the lineup.

• Defensive linemen Arik Armstead (arm/shoulder) and DeForest Buckner (lower body, soft tissue) didn't play against Denver, but the Niners continue to indicate that both have been held out for precautionary reasons.

• Linebacker Aaron Lynch didn't play against the Broncos after getting hit in the eye during practice last week, but he was dressed out for Monday's workout.
