Kobe Bryant's 60-point game in the final appearance of his 20-year NBA career was among the most memorable farewells in professional sports history. ESPN Stats & Info recalls other riveting "walk-off" performances:
Sept. 28, 1960: Ted Williams hits a home run in his final at-bat, in the eighth inning, and pulls the Boston Red Sox within one run of the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox come back to win 5-4 in the ninth inning.
March 20, 1965: In his final game at Princeton, Bill Bradley scores 58 points in the NCAA third-place game, setting what was then an NCAA tournament record for points in a game.
May 5, 1969: Bill Russell leads the Boston Celtics to a win in Game 7 of the 1969 NBA Finals over Jerry West and the Los Angeles Lakers. Not only is it Russell's final game as a player, it also ends his three-year run as the Celtics' head coach.
Oct. 1, 1977: Pele plays in his final game with the New York Cosmos against his former Brazilian club, Santos. Pele plays one half for each team and scores on a free kick to give Cosmos the win.
Jan. 31, 1999: John Elway throws for more than 300 yards, passes for one touchdown and runs for another en route to winning MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII for the Denver Broncos.
June 9, 2001: Ray Bourque wins his only Stanley Cup in the final game of his career. Bourque spent most of the first 20 seasons of his career with the Boston Bruins before winning the Stanley Cup in his second season with the Colorado Avalanche. Bourque is a plus-2 in the Cup-clinching game.
Sept. 8, 2002: Pete Sampras defeats longtime rival Andre Agassi in the men's singles final of the US Open, the last match Sampras played as a pro.
Sept. 28, 2008: Mike Mussina won 270 games in his career, but he didn't win 20 in a season until his final one, 2008. He gets his 20th win in his final start, throwing six scoreless innings for the Yankees in a 6-2 win over the Red Sox.
