Titans Saturday mailbag: O-line development, keys to Marcus Mariota's success

Paul Kuharsky: We have no idea where it is. Four-fifths of the starting personnel is likely the same. I have faith that left tackle Taylor Lewan and right guard Chance Warmack will be good. And as two of the team's last three first-round picks, they ought to be. I think Brian Schwenke is capable of being a quality center. Left guard Andy Levitre is probably getting his final chance to be anything close to the guy they gave a giant contract to in 2013. Right tackle is probably third-rounder Jeremiah Poutasi or Byron Bell, which should be an upgrade. But it's hard to say it will be when I've said that two years in a row and the play has been poor, even prior to injuries. Paul Kuharsky: No. Jason McCourty, Perrish Cox and Blidi Wreh-Wilson are the team's top three cornerbacks. BWW could go from starter to nickel because of Cox's arrival, but nothing has transpired that could knock him off the roster. And there is no reason for them to give up on him at this stage. I sense Coty Sensabaugh, who'd currently rank fourth, will have to win coaches over, but there is no clear-cut alternative after not drafting a corner. Paul Kuharsky: DaQuan Jones is now starting at end opposite Jurrell Casey, ahead of Ropati Pitoitua. But that change was underway in the season finale in 2014, so it's not strictly a Dick LeBeau move. Players are louder before the snap and communication looks to be better and clearer. LeBeau told them if he can't hear them, they aren't loud enough. Paul Kuharsky: Well, I think it starts with the definition of success. To me, it'll be a successful rookie season if Marcus Mariota can maintain calm and poise in the face of complicated stuff that will come at him, not turn the ball over with any regularity, and show some level of improvement in each quarter of the season. What's the key to that? The scheme will be first, and the ability not to put too much on him by running it well and playing better defense. Paul Kuharsky: I'd order them Jones first, inside linebacker Zach Brown second, receiver Justin Hunter third and running back Bishop Sankey fourth. Part of that is opportunity. Jones and Brown are going to start. Hunter will have to fight for a role and snaps, and Sankey is going to lose work to David Cobb. I like Brown in coverage but haven't really seen him work against the run as an inside guy. Hunter has not shown he has the needed fire. And I'm just not sure how good Sankey is, though he's a great guy and hard worker. Paul Kuharsky: I think absolutely yes.
