Tennessee Titans cut RB David Cobb in moves to get to 75

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans cut two players on Tuesday, trimming their roster to the NFL-mandated 75 players. They cut 11 on Sunday in advance of that. Here's a closer look at the first cuts:

Most significant move: Running back David Cobb was a fifth-round pick out of Minnesota in 2015. He injured a calf during his rookie preseason and went on IR/recall. He made it back to play in seven games, with 52 carries, 146 yards and a TD. He did little in camp and lost a fumble in the preseason game against Carolina. Still, he typically ranked ahead of Bishop Sankey -- until now. Cobb is less of a special-teams player than Antonio Andrews, Sankey and David Fluellen. Two of them are likely to be gone in the cut to 53 on Saturday.

Faster clock: Outside linebacker Deiontrez Mount was a sixth-rounder last year and blew out a knee in his fourth game. But he was raw and his pass-rush flashes were not enough to keep him around as he needs to get better setting the edge and playing consistently. Mount didn’t play extensively at Louisville and GM Jon Robinson has made it clear he’s not into projects.

Not sticky: Blidi Wreh-Wilson was a third-rounder in 2013 who brought the team some height outside as he’s 6-foot-1. But he never showed good ball sense and was a liability when he played. He got a look at safety in camp, but the Titans have at least five guys better than him there. Sadly, in the last two preseason games, veteran addition Antwon Blake has had a lot of the same problems in coverage that doomed Wreh-Wilson.

Titans moves: Waived RB David Cobb, WR Jarrod West, S Lamarcus Brutus, T William Campbell, WR Donte Foster, LB Amarlo Herrera, WR Reece Horn, LB Deiontrez Mount, CB Tyler Patmon, OL Nick Ritcher, DE Mike Smith, CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson. Waived-injured C Andy Gallik.
