NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans have reached a contract agreement with defensive lineman Sylvester Williams. ESPN 150 ranking: No. 29 Terms: Three years Grade -- C+: The Titans had the NFL’s third-best run defense in 2016 but clearly think they could have gotten better play in the middle of their line on run downs. What it means: The Titans cut Al Woods recently. They were in the mix for Brandon Williams, but he re-signed with Baltimore and got a giant contract. Sylvester Williams is not Brandon Williams, but is an experienced 3-4 nose tackle who can help solidify the Titans’ run front. Williams has started 48 games and played in 60 during his four seasons with the Broncos. He was a starter in Super Bowl 50 and brings the Titans a second Super Bowl winner two days after they signed former New England cornerback Logan Ryan. What's the risk: Denver did not execute the fifth-year option on Williams last spring and the Broncos were ready to move on. He did not get strong reviews for his play last year. If Williams can rebound as a two-down plugger between Jurrell Casey and DaQuan Jones in the Titans' 3-4, the new guy could be a good addition. The Titans' system doesn’t demand a giant at nose tackle; Williams was listed by Denver as 6-foot-2 and 313 pounds. Angelo Blackson (318), Antwaun Woods (318) and Jones (322) are all heavier among the Titans' current defensive line group.
