NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- One of the biggest questions for the Tennessee Titans during training camp was wide receiver Rishard Matthews' absence from practice with an undisclosed injury. The Titans received a major boost when the veteran passed his physical Sunday, allowing him to be activated from the physically unable to perform list. He returned to practice on Monday.

In his two seasons with Tennessee, Matthews has established himself as one of quarterback Marcus Mariota's favorite targets with 118 receptions for 1,740 yards and 13 touchdown catches. He rejoins a young group of receivers led by second-year talents Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor.

After being out a little more than a month, Matthews is ready to make a difference.

"I am glad to be healthy now and get back on the field," he said Monday before practice. "I am very excited. It sucks being out there just watching. This is the longest I've been out from football. It was tough."

Despite not being able to take part in practice, Matthews made sure he was on the field with his teammates getting mental reps. Matt LaFleur's offense does an excellent job of putting players in position to exploit matchups, and Matthews is ready to work with Tennessee's new offensive coordinator.

"Coach LaFleur has displayed that a lot of people will be moving around," Matthews said. "It will be very hard to get a beat on us, so that's also exciting. The sky is the limit for our group. We have a bunch of talented young players."

The 2018 season was shaping up to be a contract year for Matthews before he agreed to a one-year extension last week. Now he can focus on improving his chemistry with Mariota.

"Marcus makes it easy to get along and be on the same page," Matthews said. "We are very vocal with each other."
