LANDOVER, Md. -- Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was declared inactive for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, less than two weeks after he lost his starting job to Kirk Cousins. The move was expected and had been mentioned all week as a likely occurrence.

But Griffin played the role of No. 3 quarterback all week in terms of how duties were divided in practice. As is customary, that often means playing a different position when going through scout team work.

Griffin still went through his regular pre-game workout Sunday, stretching and throwing and then lingering on the field a little extra longer -- catching a couple deep balls from a staffer and even booting a ball to the uprights from about 20 yards away.

The Redskins other inactives Sunday are: linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat (thigh injury), receiver Rashad Ross, guard Spencer Long, tackle Tom Compton, guard Arie Kouandjio and tight end Anthony McCoy.

The Redskins don’t have a big blocking tight end without Compton and McCoy, though Derek Carrier showed in practice and in preseason games that he could block. That’ll be a big issue with Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake facing second-year tackle Morgan Moses. Teams like to chip with backs and tight ends on Wake.

The other inactives contained no surprises. Jeffcoat was hurt in practice Friday, forcing the Redskins to promote Houston Bates from the practice squad.
