LAS VEGAS -- The heavyweight fight between four-time champion Evander Holyfield and James Toney will be held Oct. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Promoter Dan Goossen made the announcement today. Showtime pay-per-view will telecast the fight, which Holyfield hopes moves him closer to a championship bout. Holyfield said he will not retire until he reclaims the I-B-F, W-B-C and W-B-A title belts. That could be complicated at age 40. He lost a fight for the vacant I-B-F title to Chris Byrd in December. Lennox Lewis owns the W-B-C title and Roy Jones Junior is the WBA champ. Toney, a three-time world champion, won the IBF cruiserweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Vassiliy Jirov April 26. |
