Jack Catterall capped his best campaign yet on Saturday with a decisive win over Regis Prograis. The victory should earn the Englishman a title shot early next year.
Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs) floored Prograis twice during the bout en route to a dominant win over the former junior welterweight champion. The fight followed Catterall's win over Josh Taylor in a rematch back in May.
With the pair of victories, Catterall has established himself as the third-best 140-pounder in the world after stalwarts Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney.
The 31-year-old is arguably the best active boxer to never win a world title, though he came close in 2022 when he dropped a controversial decision to Taylor in a challenge for the undisputed championship.
With the win, Catterall maintained his position and could look to an IBF title shot vs. the winner of the Dec. 7 fight between champion Liam Paro and Richardson Hitchins. All three fighters are promoted by Eddie Hearn.
Prograis, meanwhile, drops out of the rankings following his second consecutive lopsided loss (and third straight lackluster performance). The New Orleans native said he would contemplate retirement. He entered the ring ranked No. 10.
Undefeated Japanese fighter Andy Hiraoka, who is coming off a TKO victory over Ismael Barroso in September, replaces Prograis.
ESPN's divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.
Fighters who haven't competed in the past 12 months -- and don't have a fight scheduled -- will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to re-enter the rankings after his next bout.
