Week 5 college football betting lookahead: Michigan a value pick?

College Football, null

College football lookahead is the essential grab bag of numbers, trends, reads and concepts each Monday throughout the season.

In Week 5, we decide we're ready to buy a preseason darling that now is at rock-bottom, check in on the latest batch of quarterback injuries and examine a Pac-12 affair pitting two teams coming off crushing defeats.

Week 5 features one Thursday game and four on Friday, including ranked teams Penn State and California in conference action. Virginia at Notre Dame (-10.5) and USC at Washington (-9) are the week's only matchups pitting two ranked teams.

Florida, Pitt and Syracuse have dates with FCS opponents.

All lines and totals from Circa Sportsbook as of Sunday.

Buy: Michigan Wolverines

Buying low is always good -- provided the stock isn't about to go any lower. After an 0-3 ATS start, capped by a blowout loss at Wisconsin, there are plenty of takes being published that it's time for Michigan to pull the plug on Jim Harbaugh. This is rock-bottom, and the idea of Harbaugh's dismissal is fantasy. When the stock is so low that selling means counting on the continued failure of an elite coach to the point of his firing, it's time to buy.
