Carter's injury paves way for Leaf

Oct. 15
Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones said rookie quarterback Quincy Carter had surgery Monday to remove a tendon behind his knee that had contributed to his hamstring problems.

Jones said the doctors feel it is a tendon he doesn't need. Carter's recovery is expected to take five weeks. He also may need a few weeks following recovery before he is ready to play again.

Carter's absence will give Ryan Leaf, who signed a three-year contract last week, a chance to learn the Cowboys' offense. In fact, we may see Leaf as a starter before Carter returns.
