Oklahoma St. offensive coordinator has deal with Southern Miss

Southern Mississippi officials have finalized a contract to secure Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Larry Fedora as its new head coach, a source close to the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Fedora will be introduced at a news conference Wednesday.

Fedora replaces Jeff Bower, who resigned last month.

Fedora had two interviews for the position. He is considered an offensive innovator and will be counted on to bring the enthusiasm athletic director Richard Giannini seeks.

Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and South Carolina defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix interviewed but withdrew their names from consideration.

Bower, who completed his 14th consecutive winning season, led the Golden Eagles (7-5, 5-3 Conference USA) to the papajohns.com Bowl where they will play Cincinnati.

Joe Schad is a college football reporter for ESPN.
