San Jose State fires coach Ron Caragher after 19-30 record

College Football, San José State Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State fired coach Ron Caragher on Sunday after four seasons during which the Spartans never broke .500.

Caragher went 19-30 in four seasons. He was hired to replace Mike MacIntyre, who went 10-2 in 2012 and then left to take the head-coaching job at Colorado. Caragher had succeeded Jim Harbaugh at FCS San Diego in 2007, where Caragher was 44-22 in six seasons.

At San Jose State, the best he could do was 6-6 in 2013. In 2015, the Spartans went 6-7 and won a bowl game. This season San Jose State was 4-8 and 3-5 in the Mountain West.

He has one year left on a five-year contract and is owed $525,000.

Caragher is the second Mountain West coach to be fired Sunday. Nevada fired Brian Polian earlier in the day.
