Mississippi State, the last of 80 teams to earn a bowl berth, will play in the St. Petersburg Bowl against Miami (Ohio), sources said.
The Bulldogs (5-7) were one of three teams without six bowl-eligible wins to earn a berth based on their Academic Progress Rate rankings.
Also, the Las Vegas Bowl presented by Geico will pit the Mountain West champion -- either San Diego State or Wyoming -- against Houston.
The Cougars (9-3) will be coached by defensive coordinator Todd Orlando as the school seeks a replacement for Tom Herman, who left for Texas.
Only four bids have been officially announced: Eastern Michigan vs. Old Dominion in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl; BYU in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl; and Navy in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
