Virginia preseason All-America cornerback Bryce Hall carted off with ankle injury

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Virginia preseason All-America cornerback Bryce Hall suffered an injury to his lower left leg and was taken off the field on a cart during the second quarter of the 20th-ranked Cavaliers' loss at Miami on Friday night.

He was hurt in punt coverage and the injury was quickly placed in an air cast, after trainers initially covered it with towels to shield others from seeing the severity.

Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall said after the game that the injury was to Hall's ankle, but didn't share any additional details.

All of Virginia's players gathered around the cart just before Hall was taken off the field, and several Miami players jogged over to offer him well-wishes.

Hall was making his 39th consecutive start, which the Cavaliers said was the longest such streak in the nation among cornerbacks. He led all FBS players with 22 pass breakups last season, then elected to return for his senior year.

ESPN's Todd McShay rated Hall the No. 20 prospect in his 2020 NFL draft rankings.
