UTSA hires Arkansas assistant Jeff Traylor as head coach

Arkansas associate head coach Jeff Traylor is UTSA's new head coach, it was announced on Monday.

Traylor, a longtime Texas high school coach, spent the past two seasons coaching Arkansas' running backs after filling the same position at SMU. He interviewed for SMU's head-coaching vacancy after Chad Morris left for Arkansas, and eventually joined Morris in Fayetteville when SMU hired Sonny Dykes for the top job.

Traylor replaces Frank Wilson, fired Dec. 1 after four seasons at UTSA. He made his mark as coach at Gilmer High School in Texas, where he spent 15 seasons and went 175-26 with three state titles and two runner-up finishes.

Traylor entered the college ranks at Texas and spent two seasons coaching the Longhorns' tight ends and wide receivers.
