Howard football bans 14 amid probe

WASHINGTON -- Fourteen Howard University football players will miss one to three games as a result of the school's investigation into NCAA rules violations.

The school said Friday that one volleyball player would also be affected by the investigation, which has focused on the distribution of books and other materials to athletes.

Howard temporarily suspended its spring sports in April as part of a self-imposed action when the violations were first reported. The teams resumed play after a few days.

The school says the investigation is continuing in cooperation with the NCAA.

Howard's football team opens its season Sept. 1 against Morehouse at RFK Stadium.
