3.15pm Well, well, well... what a stunning contest. For the second time in four years, New Zealand have muscled their way through to the World Cup final, and just as they did in the 2015 semi-final in Auckland, they have had to hold their composure in arguably the match of the tournament.

And for Grant Elliott then, read Jimmy Neesham now ... not so much for the way he held his nerve in that final over, but for that screamer of a catch at gully off Dinesh Karthik. Given the context of the moment, it was arguably the catch of the tournament. And don't forget Martin Guptill's dead-eyed run-out of MS Dhoni as well ... he's had a dog of a tournament with the bat, but what a priceless moment he pulled off!

Lakwin: "My mind runs back to the 1996 semifinal, when Sri Lanka were 1/2, and DeSilva came out and played as if in a trance, counterattacking with such panache that completely deflated the opposition. In contrast, Kohli - for all his achievements, crumbled under the pressure. Guess greatness isn't decided by statistics after all. Crunch games, the truly great players would step up!" Harsh, I think Kohli has achieved more than enough to confirm his status as a great ... across all formats, not just ODIs. But there's no doubt they were found wanting as a collective in the crunch moment. Ravi Jadeja, aside, of course. He was a sensation in the field this morning as well, don't forget!

Finished top of the group stage, swept all before them until the England game, and even then, they took it deep. It wasn't to be, but knock-out cricket can be cruel!

Kohli doesn't remind us of any one innings in ICC tournaments that he has stepped up when the team needed him. 2011 WC finals, 2015 semi finals, 2017 Champions Trophy finals. None. It is disappointing for an Indian cricket fan like me to see this heart breaking loss. " I sense the post-mortem is going to be a painful one ...

3.05pm Matt Henry, Player of the Match: Look, we talked about just making we do the best we can and play the way we can. He started out with the ball and just tried to create pressure. We just had to ask a lot of questions against the best batting line-up. I thought we managed to scrap it out. We had the belief - we knew we had to bowl well. Obviously, they are world-class batsmen - Hardik, Dhoni and Jadeja - we knew to win the game we had to get them out. It's very special and thanks to the New Zealand supporters out there.

Kohli: Yes, it was. The first half we were spot on. We got what we needed in the field. We knew we had a good day yesterday, we felt like we had the moment, but the credit has to go to NZ bowlers. The swing and help they got from the surface - the skill from them was on display. Jaddu had an outstanding couple of games. He went with so much clarity, MS had a good partnership with him. It was a game of margins and MS was run-out. 45 minutes of bad cricket puts you out of the tournament. Difficult to take it - but New Zealand deserve it. Our shot selection could have been better, but we played a good standard of cricket throughout. New Zealand were braver in crunch situations and they deserve it.

Williamson: Yeah, it's a different playing - the way he had to skin it through the round-robin. Great semi-final over two days and very pleased to be on the right side of it. It was really tough and we had to assess the conditions. Both teams thought it would be high-scoring, we thought we could get 240 and put India under pressure. Lot of contributions from everyone. A lot of it was on the conditions and the rain around. We just wanted to put the ball in the good areas and put pressure on India. We just wanted some early wickets and it was great start for the bowlers. We needed to stay in the game for long periods. The way Jadeja and Dhoni were hitting the ball, they were likely to win, but our fielders were then outstanding. A lot of it is to look at what it is. Some of those games are tough and conditions vary throughout the match. We were underdogs coming into the semis... and all these sides have beaten each other. Anything can happen on any day. It was nice to see the guys fight for two days.

2.57pm Who writes your scripts, Neesham. He missed out in 2015 and watched Grant Elliott launch New Zealand into the final from the Eden Park grassbanks. Four years later, he closes out a semi-final and puts New Zealand in the final. Kane Williamson celebrates, Santner joins him. I haven't seen these two celebrate much. They have knocked out one of the tournament favourites India. Heartbreak for India. Is this the end for Dhoni as well...?

India were 71 for 5 in a chase of 240 when he stepped out to bat. He just did his thing: blocking and jabbing his way to the 49th over. It was Jadeja who teed off and did the heavy lifting in a century stand that revived a tough chase against an unrelenting attack. Ferguson, Boult, and Guptill combined for some late magic to deny India. Let's also not forget the pressure catches from Williamson and tidy lengths from Santner. As it stands, New Zealand move to their second successive World Cup final. Can they go one better in 2019?
