Scorer: Chandan Duorah | Commentator: Andrew McGlashan

Melbourne Stars won by seven wickets and a game that looked like it would be close has been won with eight balls left. An astonishing display from Glenn Maxwell who has taken his T20 game to a new level in the last few weeks. The required rate went above 11, but Maxwell knew exactly what he was doing. Remember, though, that the win was set up by how the Stars finished with the ball. The Renegades could only make 22 from their last four overs. They are now eight losses from eight matches this season and all-but gone.

Liam: "Most mature knock Maxi has ever played?" Well, he's in some incredible form at the moment and is so calumniating at the crease. It's great to see (unless you are the opposition). "It was about keeping it around 10-an-over. If I had some good overs I felt we could make it up," Maxwell says. "A bit of harmless banter [with Christian]."

I'll wrap things up there for tonight. The Melbourne Stars are looking very good this year. We'll see them again on Sunday, but we'll be back tomorrow for the double header of Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers v Brisbane Heat. Until then, it's goodbye and thanks for joining us.

Christian to Maxwell, SIX, my goodness! He's trying to hit each of them further...full and straight, swung over deep square leg. What a way to win it

Christian to Maxwell, 1 wide, a very short ball, called wide

Christian to Maxwell, 2 runs, full and straight, crunched back past the bowler...they hustle back, Larkin has to get a move on. Probably needed the direct hit

Christian to Maxwell, SIX, look out in the crowd! Full delivery outside off, Maxwell swings through the line and sends it 91 metres over long-off

Christian to Maxwell, no run, a slower ball, lobbed to the on side

15 off 12 balls. Should be the game for the Stars now

Connor Coco: "Maxi has become a much better player. A few years ago he tried to hit every ball for six and he used to get out a lot. Now he tries to rotate strike a lot more and he ends up scoring quickly and scores more consistently as well."
