That's a wrap for today's BBL double-header. Be sure to join us again tomorrow for another exciting day of back to back double-header cricket. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub, signing off on behalf of Ranjith, Gnasher, and Raghav. Goodnight and goodbye!
Peter Siddle: "We started well with those four wins on the bounce, then had a little bit of a wobble the last few weeks. We'd been playing pretty good cricket in those losses, but we just hadn't been able to finish off the games as well as we would have liked. Tonight was a good turnaround. To watch the boys bat and how they did was the most impressive thing. [Surge] Some days I could bowl exactly the same and have success, and some nights, it just goes the journey. It was nice to come back like that. I think how we finished in those last three overs after the Surge really put us on the right track. [Sam Harper] I was saying off-air before that those two shots he hit down mid-on or long-on at the start of the game were key. In the past, he might look to clip them over square leg and get unstuck, but now with that bat face open, he's accessing all around the ground. If they drop short, he puts it into the stands. He's always been exciting to watch, but this season, with a few new strokes and that control and temperament to hold an innings together, seeing him not out at the end was very fitting. [Big sixes] There were. It's been exciting to watch both him and Tom Rogers. The way Tom started us off got us ahead of the rate, which allowed Sammy to play that anchor role. Then, when Tom got out, it was Sammy's time to shine, and he put on a clinic. Both those two at the top are playing a big part in setting us off to good starts. [Derby crowd] It was unbelievable. The atmosphere around all the games this season has been great; there's a good vibe that makes it easy to get up and about in the field. To have 110,000 people over two games is incredible for domestic cricket. Some people might never get a chance to play in front of that, and I'm still loving every second of it. [Evergreen run] I don't know about that! We'll see how the body pulls up, but it's feeling great at the moment. Having the fans cheering us on makes it easy to try and put on a show. The boys are on fire and we're playing some nice cricket, which makes it a lot of fun."
Player of the Match, Sam Harper: "[Is the Melbourne Mace heavy?] It's too heavy for my little muscles! But it's great to get it back for our fifth win. [Batting heroics] Like I said to the boys when I was on the mic while fielding, I'm just trying to hit good shots in my strong areas without overthinking or predicting too much. I just want to hit the ball where it needs to go with a good shot; that's pretty much it. [Batting with Maxwell] I'm not sure about Maxi telling me to take the strike! He is an international superstar, and I'm very lucky to be batting and playing with him. It was just nice to have a good partnership with him. I think all of us who have played a bit of BBL know that it doesn't always go your way. It can be a cruel game sometimes, but that makes nights like tonight all the more enjoyable. We had another awesome Derby crowd; I think across the two games we had 70,000 and 40,000, so we are just pumped to be playing in front of people and having a good time. [Win over the arch-rivals] It's funny when people ask. I had an awesome time with the Renegades and had one of the best days of my life winning a title here, which I'll reflect on later. I'm still close with a lot of those boys, like Ronnie and Bori, who gave me my first great opportunity. But I am absolutely loving my time with the Stars."
10:27 pm The Stars have returned to winning ways, climbing to second place on the points table after a dominant performance. Both opening batters took the attack to the bowlers, clearing the ropes with several massive sixes and bringing up the 50-run mark by the end of the Powerplay. Thomas Rogers led the charge, reaching his second BBL half-century in just 19 balls. The opening partnership reached 84 runs before Rogers was eventually run out by Fraser-McGurk in the eighth over. The Renegades struck again in the following over when Hassan Khan dismissed Campbell Kellaway, who was caught at deep square leg. However, Sam Harper kept the momentum firmly with the Stars, reaching his fifty and continuing the aggressive hitting, remaining unbeaten at the crease on 84 runs. With 26 runs coming from the Power Surge, the Stars cruised through the chase on a surface that proved highly favorable for batting.
