The interim board tasked with cleaning up Cricket South Africa's administration issues has had its term extended by a month to mid-February 2021. The board, which was put in place by the country's sports minister Nathi Mthethwa on October 30 and approved by the Members' Council on November 17, was initially supposed to be in place for three months, ending in January 2021. But the delay in its ratification by CSA has meant it needs more time to complete their work.
"By all accounts and after some initial turbulence, the work of the interim board has gained favour amongst our country's cricket lovers," Mthethwa said in a statement issued by the sports department on Thursday morning. "Accordingly, I am confident that this extension will enable the interim board to produce a constructive and actionable report that contains the reforms required to help South African cricket realise their indubitable talent."
Mthethwa will also consider a further extension if necessary.
The board is currently occupied with disciplinary proceedings against CSA's company secretary Welsh Gwaza and acting CEO Kugandrie Govender and is defending itself in court against one of its members, former South African Cricketers Association president Omphile Ramela, who was removed from the board. CSA are still without a permanent CEO and no date has been set for its AGM, which was postponed last year.
