Michael Neser, the Australian seamer, has signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at Glamorgan until at least the end of the 2023 season, joining compatriot Marnus Labuschagne as the club's overseas players for next year.

Labuschagne, Neser's Queensland team-mate, has one year remaining on his current contract. Neser, meanwhile has been a revelation since joining the Welsh county this year after his planned stint at Surrey in 2020 was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In just four LV= Insurance County Championship matches, Neser has taken 19 wickets at an average of 14.89, His match figures of 7 for 99, which included 4 for 53 in Lancashire's second innings, was instrumental in Glamorgan's six-wicket victory in Cardiff early last month. He also took a five-wicket haul in the draw with Yorkshire in May. The 31-year-old Neser has 222 career first-class wickets at an average of 24.76 and he has scored 2,010 runs at 25.12.

"I've absolutely loved playing in Wales this season and it was a no-brainer to commit my future to the club," Neser said. "When I was first approached by Glamorgan, Marnus said what a fantastic place this was and how welcoming the people were and that's exactly how I've found it.

"As a team we've played some really good cricket this season and there's plenty of young talent which bodes well for the future. Hopefully, I can bring my experience to the table to help them out and continue to contribute to more wins so we can push for silverware."

Mark Wallace, director of cricket at Glamorgan - who sit fourth in Group Three of the Championship - described the signing as "fantastic news for the club".

"He is a world-class cricketer and a real role model to our younger players who will only get better with him around the dressing room," Wallace said. "Through him and Marnus re-signing over the last year, it shows that we are not only a very welcoming club but also a very ambitious one who can attract top players."
