Sunrisers Hyderabad seamer David Payne has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 with an ankle injury. He had come into the SRH squad as a replacement for Australian quick Jack Edwards, who had missed the season with a foot injury.
Payne played only the first two games of the season for SRH, going for 2 for 35 in three overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and 0 for 35 in two overs against Kolkata Knight Riders.
SRH had also lost England allrounder Brydon Carse to a hand injury a couple of days ago. Carse had suffered a blow during a net session at the start of the 2026 season and did not play a game for SRH, who brought in Sri Lankan quick Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement.
There was, however, better news for SRH with Pat Cummins getting clearance to rejoin the SRH squad after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney. Cummins has not played so far this season and could target a comeback against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 25.
In Cummins' absence, SRH have been led by Ishan Kishan and they currently fourth in the points table with two wins in five games, tied on four points with four other teams but ahead on net run rate. They won their previous game against Rajasthan Royals, with a pair of uncapped fast bowlers - Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain - taking four wickets each.
Their next fixture is against Chennai Super Kings at home in Hyderabad on Saturday.
