Gerald Coetzee, the South Africa fast bowler, has been signed up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as an injury replacement for David Payne for the remainder of IPL 2026. He will join SRH for INR 2 crore.
Payne, the 35-year-old left-arm quick, conceded 70 runs from five overs across two matches before he was ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury. Payne himself had come into the SRH squad as a replacement for Australia's Jack Edwards, who withdrew before the start of the competition with a foot injury.
Coetzee, who was last in action in South Africa's five-match T20I series in New Zealand in March, and played a starring role in their win in the fourth game with 3 for 31, has played in the IPL in the past: with Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2024, when he picked up 13 wickets in ten games, and with Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2025, when he got two wickets in four games.
SRH have also lost Brydon Carse, the England allrounder, to a hand injury. Carse had suffered a blow during a net session at the start of the 2026 season and did not play a game for SRH, who brought in Sri Lanka quick Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement.
The good news for SRH, who are at No. 5 on the points table with two wins from five games, is that Pat Cummins has been cleared to join them after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney. Cummins has not played so far this season and could target a comeback against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on April 25.
SRH's next fixture is against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home in Hyderabad on Saturday.
