South African speedster Wayde van Niekerk broke the 200m national record at the second edition of the Racers Grand Prix meeting in Jamaica on Sunday morning.

The 400m Olympic champion ran a time of 19.84 seconds to beat Anaso Jobodwana's time of 19.87 which he set two years ago at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

The 24-year-old Van Niekerk finished ahead of Jamaicans Rasheed Dwyer (20.11) and Warren Weir in (20.18).

The Racers Grand Prix was also a celebration to honour of Usain Bolt who raced for the last time in his home country.

In the separate 100m race that did not include Bolt, Akani Simbine - the South African 100m record-holder - finished second with a time of 10.00 behind Yohan Blake (9.97).
