ESPN Africa will broadcast the Summer X Games 2021 extreme sports competition live across the continent, from 14 - 18 July 2021.

This year's X Games will feature all of the nail-biting action that the world's top extreme sports tournament is known for, with top-tier athletes competing in this larger-than-life sporting event taking place in California. All events will broadcast live on ESPN (DStv 218, Starsat 248).

The X Games consists of two versions: a Summer competition and a Winter competition. The sports include a high degree of risk, involving speed, height, a high level of physical exertion and highly specialized gear. Participants from around the world compete in these high stakes activities to win bronze, silver, and gold medals, as well as prize money.

This year's Summer X Games will include Skateboard (Male, Female, Vertical, Trick, Street Trick), BMX (Dirt, Tricks, Park, Street) and Moto X (Trick, Whip, Freestyle).

Skateboarders compete in the half pipe, a hollow semi-circle made of concrete. Athletes skate up and down two opposing ramps and perform tricks when they reach the top. There is also a competition for the best trick and most air off a jump. In "street" competitions, skateboarders skate around a park of obstacles and perform tricks.

BMX bikers also compete on a half pipe and a street course, also performing tricks.

Motorbike riders have similar events, along with a "supercross" race around a dirt obstacle course with steep jumps.
