There's plenty to talk about the weekend's football action. The reigning European champions proved why they are never really out of any match while Manchester City's no.10 showed why he's special.

Match of the Weekend: Lille vs PSG
Davide Ancelotti (yes, Carlo's son) thought he had got the first major coup of his coaching career in Europe in just his second game in charge for Lille. Hosting PSG, defending champions (of France and Europe), Lille were leading for most of the match, scoring in the 21st and 84th minute to take a 2-0 lead as the match entered second half injury time.
Lille had played on the counter, effectively and both Hákon Haraldsson's and Dilane Bakwa's goals had been taken with aplomb.Surely, they had the win sewn up.
Then, suddenly, PSG clicked into gear. In the 91st minute, Vitinha curled a screamer into the top corner from the edge of the box. Four minutes later, Marquinhos leaped high to head the champions level and leave the home crowd stunned.
Goal of the Weekend: Rayan Cherki vs Crystal Palace
In the middle of Manchester City's comfortable 4-1 win over Crystal Palace, came a moment of glorious football from their French playmaker Rayan Cherki. Receiving a Phil Foden pass on the run, just inside the box, Cherki took a touch infield that sent him through a melee of three Palace defenders and into a space that had suddenly appeared just outside the six-yard box. Holding off a fourth challenger, Cherki kept calm, gave Dean Henderson in the Palace goal the eyes and simply rolled it into the far corner.

In a tight, overcrowded space, Cherki had floated past defenders like they weren't present, the ball tied to his laces and had engineered a toe-poke a finish with all the inventiveness of a freestyle baller. Magical.
Upset of the Weekend: Elversberg beat Bayer Leverkusen
If you hadn't heard of SV Elversberg before today, it'd probably be very understandable. After all, as recently as 2021-22, Elversberg had been playing in the South-West regional league in German football's fourth tier. When Bayer Leverkusen went invincible in 2023-24, Elversberg finished 11th in their first ever campaign in 2. Bundesliga, marking a remarkable rise to the second division.
So what, you may ask. Well, three years later Elversberg are now in the Bundesliga for the first time in their history, and on Saturday announced their arrival with a bang, beating Leverkusen 3-2 in their first-ever topflight match.
Lukas Petkov opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a low drive from the edge of the box. Cole Campbell made it 2-0 just a minute later, pouncing on a loose pass and lacing a shot into the far bottom corner from just inside the box. They kept coming, and in the first minute of the second half they made it a remarkable 3-0 when Petkov turned provider as he whipped in a low cross that was turned in from close range by David Mokwa.
A stunned Leverkusen would shake themselves up and fight back, but Patrick Schick's and Christian Kofane's goals weren't enough to prevent one of the great opening day upsets across Europe's top leagues.
Quote of the Weekend: Spurs' stadium announcer vs Spurs manager
"We've spent and we've spent. We are back on track. We are going places. We are huge:" Tottenham Hotspur's long-serving stadium announcer, Paul Coyte ahead of their match vs. Newcastle.
They lost the match 2-0. In the post-match presser, coach Roberto De Zerbi said, "Unfortunately, you can't buy the right mentality in the market."
Moment of the Weekend: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang announces Deportivo's return to the big leagues
With one of LaLiga's iconic venues, Riazor, in fine voice, Deportivo La Coruna put on quite the show as they beat Valencia 3-1 to mark their first win since returning to the Spanish topflight after eight years away.
Instrumental in the triumph was 37-year-old new signing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. In the 17th minute of the match, he showed just what those ageing legs had left in them when he raced forward on the counter, beat his marker with a glorious touch that sent the defender careening the wrong way and in full sprint dinked the ball over the advancing keeper with a chip of delicate precision. It was a superb goal, Depor's second and one that marked a big moment: Depor, even if not super yet, were back in the big leagues.
