Unicorns of Love maintained its spot in the standings with a narrow 2-1 win over last-place Mysterious Monkeys on Saturday during Week 8, Day 3 of the European League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split in Berlin.

Despite Unicorns of Love (6-3, 15-10 match record) ultimately coming out on top, this series was not as clean as one would've thought given the difference in play between the two teams. Even in Game 1, where mid laner Fabian "Exileh" Schubert's Talon got off to a tremendous start with five early kills, UoL had trouble closing out the game. Thankfully for the Unicorns, top laner Kiss "Vizicsacsi" Tamas' Cho'Gath was simply unkillable; he finished with a 7/0/6 KDA (kills/deaths/assists) and easily fended off multiple members of Mysterious Monkeys (2-8, 4-17) as UoL took the win.

Unicorns of Love's sloppy play continued into Game 2, where Mysterious Monkeys was able to find just about all of the early success. UoL was blessed with three Infernal Drakes to remain in the game, but even this stroke of luck proved insufficient as the Monkeys tied up the series. The final game was simply ugly from both sides, with kills, objectives and duels going back and forth throughout the first 25 minutes of gameplay. However, UoL was eventually able to nab a Baron in the chaos, and from there close the game out gradually.

The only constant in this up-and-down series was UoL AD carry Samuel "Samux" Fernandez Fort, who played beautifully in all three games. Using Jhin for two games and a final one of Xayah, Samux wasn't flashy, but consistently put out damage in fights en route to an overall 17/6/18 KDA. Despite multiple fumbles by Unicorns of Love over the course of the series, Samux was able to carry his team through the engagements that weren't outright thrown by his teammates, resulting in victory for UoL.

The next battles for each of these teams will be against Splyce, at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday for Mysterious Monkeys and at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday for Unicorns of Love.
