Fantasy Insights: Lots to like about the San Diego Padres

Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire

Spring is here and Eric Karabell misses baseball, so he is going to write about all 30 MLB teams over the next few months, covering myriad player values and his general thoughts for what he hopes will ultimately be a fruitful 2020 season.

Next up, the San Diego Padres.

Top fantasy storyline: Just how good -- or should I say safe -- is Fernando Tatis Jr.? That is the question surrounding the Padres, after Tatis blossomed in his rookie campaign with a lofty .317 batting average, plus 22 home runs and 16 stolen bases in a mere 84 games. Yeah, he was that good. He was also a tad fortunate, as his detractors -- or, perhaps, realists -- point out the .410 BABIP, 29.6% strikeout rate and several stints on the injured list. We know Tatis is good, but those are factors.
