Fantasy Insights: Fishing for fantasy value in Miami

Is it too much of a reach to think that Jonathan Villar or any of his Miami Marlins teammates will have a ton of fantasy impact this season? Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Spring is here and Eric Karabell misses baseball, so he is going to write about all 30 MLB teams over the next few months, covering myriad player values and his general thoughts for what he hopes will ultimately be a fruitful 2020 season.

Next up, the Miami Marlins!

Top fantasy storyline: Well, nobody would confuse this lineup for that of the Yankees, Twins or Astros, but Miami did improve its offense with the addition of Jonathan Villar, essentially dumped this past offseason by the Orioles. Villar is a better fantasy option than a real-life one, and perhaps his time as a Marlin is merely fleeting, but three players stole 40 bases in 2019, and he is one of them. This is supply versus demand, folks. Villar also hit 24 home runs, making him a special fantasy option, and potentially a fourth- or fifth-round pick in standard roto leagues. The steals mean less in points formats. Still, no other Marlin is going in the first 15 rounds of most drafts. In fact, Brian Anderson might be the only other Marlins hitter to go at all!
