Fantasy Insights: Success unlikely to be in the Cards for 2020

Can the Cardinals count on the likes of a declining Paul Goldschmidt in 2020? Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

Spring is here and Eric Karabell misses baseball, so he is going to write about all 30 MLB teams over the next few months, covering myriad player values and his general thoughts for what he hopes will ultimately be a fruitful 2020 season.

Next up, the St. Louis Cardinals!

Top fantasy storyline: Two players, with different paths, get noticed. The pitcher so many are talking about is right-hander Jack Flaherty, who started slowly in 2019 and then dominated after the All-Star break with an 0.91 ERA and an 0.71 WHIP. Many wonder if he deserves top-five pitcher billing. The hitter in the news is Tommy Edman, a seemingly average prospect who was a surprise five-category provider upon his call-up. One assumes he continues to get regular at-bats now with Marcell Ozuna gone, but repeating his fantastic half-season might be tough.
