Nabil Dirar faces Monaco suspension after referee confrontation

Midfielder Nabil Dirar could be suspended by Monaco after the principality club opened disciplinary proceedings against him.

Dirar is currently serving an eight-match ban imposed by the Ligue de Football Professionnel after his confrontation with referee Tony Chapron during a 1-0 win over Nice on Feb. 6.

The LFP ban, announced in early March, was at the time described as "harsh" by Monaco, who have employed Dirar since January 2012.

But on Thursday the club said they had initiated disciplinary action against the Morocco international, claiming in a statement on their official website that he had "flatly refused to accept any financial sanction."

The statement added: "The club have no choice but to initiate disciplinary proceedings that could lead to the suspension of the player."
