Roma have confirmed that Alessandro Florenzi's season is over after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee he first injured last October.
Tests on the cruciate ligament he tore four months ago, and which had been causing him problems on his return to training this week, confirmed that another operation is necessary.
An awkward movement in training on Tuesday saw the 25-year-old once again damage the ligaments in his left knee which he tore during the Giallorossi's Serie A 3-1 win at Sassuolo on Oct. 26.
"This morning, Alessandro Florenzi underwent further, necessary instrumental examinations which have confirmed the initial suspicion, that he has once again torn his anterior crucial ligament," a statement on the Serie A club's website read.
"The clinical evaluation and support from professor Mariani [who performed surgery on Florenzi back in October] confirm the instrumental results and, as a result, an arthroscope will be performed this morning which will be first and foremost of a diagnostic nature, therefore aimed at confirming the clinical, instrumental diagnosis, and will subsequently be of a surgical nature, to substitute the broken ligament."
It is estimated it could take six to eight months for Florenzi to make a full recovery.
The Italy international made just nine Serie A appearances this season.
