Melbourne Victory owe Sydney FC an A-League Grand Final defeat - Berisha

Melbourne Victory striker Besart Berisha says his club owe Sydney FC an A-League Grand Final defeat after three losses to the Sky Blues this season.

Victory will only get the chance to make amends by defeating Brisbane Roar in next Sunday's crunch semifinal at AAMI Park.

And even then, Sydney must overcome Melbourne City or Perth Glory on Saturday in their semifinal at Allianz Stadium.

But the meeting of first against second is what every neutral wants to see after a season dominated by the two teams clad in blue.

Berisha is clearly motivated by Victory's previous meetings with the premiers.

Flip the three results and Victory would have been champions -- a not so ridiculous scenario given Kevin Muscat's side led in the first two encounters before losing 2-1.

Berisha said the finals series wiped the slate clean and allowed the Victory a chance for revenge.

"Of course we lost three times. We know that. But finals are finals and this is where everything starts," he told Fox Sports.

"We didn't bring 100 percent against Sydney FC this year when we play them and if you want to win against them you have to be 100 percent.

"It's definitely always a special game against Sydney FC [and] we owe them."

The Kosovo international will be reunited with his old side next Sunday night.

Berisha tallied 48 goals in three seasons at the Roar and 52 for Victory to become the first man to score 100 A-League goals.

After overtaking Archie Thompson to become the league's highest-ever scorer earlier in the season, Berisha said he was delighted to score a second milestone on the eve of the finals.

"I'm relieved," he said. "You want to score this goal and get away [from the milestone] leading towards the finals.

"It was really important to me. I want to be free. I want to think just about the finals and how to play and win."
