Barcelona and Brazil midfielder Paulinho has vowed to change the opinions of his critics through performances, while adding he wants to help Lionel Messi regain his status as the world's best player.
Paulinho moved from China's Guangzhou Evergrande for €40 million this summer -- the fourth-highest transfer fee in Barcelona's history.
Barca have so far experienced a disappointing window that has seen Neymar leave for a world record fee to join Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain. And their failure to adequately replenish the squad has seen their signing of Paulinho -- an athletic, box-to-box midfielder -- met with overwhelming criticism by disgruntled fans.
Paulinho's transfer also comes with allegations of an ulterior motive by club president Josep Mario Bartomeu. However, the former Tottenham man told Sport on Thursday he can only silence the negative noise with his play.
"Everything I can do I can do it by playing, so I will change the opinion of the people," Paulinho told Sport.
"The best way to respond is on the field, helping my teammates, striving for victories.
"I am very mature and I do not think about [criticism], only about helping Barcelona win titles."
Paulinho then added that he's eager to develop an understanding with Messi, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, at the Camp Nou.
"I am looking at the way he has to play, how I should play in order to adapt to him," he said.
"Because the goal is to do everything possible so that he becomes the best in the world again and that he helps us to win titles."
