Stats: Manchester City tie Liverpool with 8th League Cup, Harry Kane's rare 0

Eleven of the 12 clubs that attempted to start the breakaway European Super League were in domestic league action this weekend. Only four - Internazionale, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City -- won, with City beating Tottenham Hotspur in a one-sided League Cup final. In La Liga, the title race continues to remain tight after a draw for Real Madrid, a loss for Atletico Madrid and victory for Barcelona. In Ligue 1, Lille pulled off a second-half comeback to beat Lyon and maintain their single-point advantage over PSG.

By The Numbers has the best stats from this weekend:

League Cup

0

Harry Kane didn't attempt a shot or create a single chance for Spurs in the League Cup final. This is the first time that's happened (when he has played more than 45 minutes in a game) since September 2018, against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

2

Spurs' Ryan Mason became the first manager to take charge of an English club in a major domestic final as early as his second game in charge, since Luton Town's Syd Owen, when he took charge in the 1959 FA Cup final.

4

Pep Guardiola has become the first manager to win the English League Cup in four consecutive seasons. He has tied with Brian Clough, Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho for most League Cup titles.

8

This was Manchester City's eighth League Cup title, the most along with Liverpool. They are just the second team to win the competition in four consecutive campaigns (Liverpool, 1981-1984).

21-2

The score may have been 1-0, but that doesn't tell you the whole story. During the 90 minutes, Manchester City outshot Tottenham 21-2 and had a 3.33-0.08 advantage in xG (Expected Goals).

Premier League

1

In Burnley's 4-0 demolition of Wolves, Chris Wood became the first player from New Zealand to score a Premier League hat-trick, with New Zealand now the 46th different nation to be represented by a hat-trick scorer in the competition, and the first new nation since Gabon (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang).

7

Manchester United have drawn more PL games 0-0 than any other side this season (seven). In fact, they have had only one league campaign where they were involved in more (eight in 1980-81).

24

Manchester United have extended their PL unbeaten streak to 24 games, which is the second-longest such streak in English top-flight history after Arsenal's 27 from April 2003 - September 2004.

39%

David McGoldrick has scored 39% of Sheffield United's goals in the PL this season (7/18) -- the highest percentage of any player for his team in the competition.

48%

Matheus Pereira has either scored (nine) or assisted (five) in 14 of West Bromwich Albion's 29 Premier League goals this season (48%); only Kane for Tottenham (61%) has had a hand in a higher proportion of his side's goals this season.

La Liga

2

The nerves are telling on the side that's currently leading La Liga (Barcelona, who are two points behind, have a game in hand). Atletico Madrid have lost two of their last five La Liga games (W2, D1). That is as many defeats as they suffered in their previous 44 league matches (W29, D13, L2).

3

The nerves are telling across the Spanish capital. Real Madrid have drawn 0-0 in three of their last four games in all competitions (W1), as many as they had in their previous 68 matches (W45, D10, L13).

4

Real Betis are the only side in La Liga history to keep a clean sheet in four consecutive away games against Real Madrid (W2 D2).

46

Barcelona, meanwhile, are hitting peak form just as they hit the home stretch. They have now won 46 out of 51 possible points in La Liga this calendar year (W15, D1, L1). That's more than any other team in this period.

Serie A

4

Atalanta have scored at least four goals in nine different matches in Serie A this season. Only one team in Europe's top-five leagues has scored 4+ goals in more games this season -- Bayern Munich (10).

Ronaldo-Messi watch

This was a rare weekend in which neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi troubled the statisticians.
