Stats: Lewandowski seventh to 300, Marcelo's record-equalling 23

Another cracking weekend of football, another stellar set of stats. In Germany, Robert Lewandowski can't stop scoring and Bayern Munich can't stop setting new records. They continue to lead Borussia Dortmund by six points atop the standings. Spain (Saudi Arabia, actually) saw Real Madrid crowned their Supercopa champions after they beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in the final while in France, PSG maintained their 11 point advantage at the top. That's the same gap that Manchester City are maintaining over Liverpool in England. They both cruised to wins over the weekend - City over Chelsea, Liverpool over Brentford. Aston Villa meanwhile came from 2-0 down to draw Manchester United. Inter Milan's 0-0 draw at Atalanta saw neighbours AC close the gap at the top of Serie A to two points.

By The Numbers brings you the best stats:

PREMIER LEAGUE

1

Philippe Coutinho hadn't managed a goal or assist in any of his seven PL appearances against Manchester United while playing for Liverpool (480 minutes). He netted Aston Villa's equaliser just 14 minutes into his debut for the club.

12

James Ward-Prowse has scored 12 direct free-kick goals in the PL. Only one player has more in the PL era... David Beckham (18).

19

Rafael Benitez was sacked by Everton on Sunday. Under him, they had got just 19 points in 19 Premier League matches, their lowest tally at the halfway stage of a season since 2005-06 (17). They had lost nine of their final 12 league matches under Benitez.

42

Since the start of the 2018-19 season, only Thomas Muller (64) and Lionel Messi (47) have provided more assists in Europe's big-five leagues than Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold (42).

50%

Ederson's clean sheet vs Chelsea was his 83rd in 166 games. He's the only goalkeeper with 100+ appearances in PL history to keep a clean sheet in as many as 50% of them.

55

Bruno Fernandes has been directly involved in 55 goals in 70 PL appearances for Manchester United (33 goals, 22 assists), with only Mohamed Salah (63) recording more combined goals and assists in the competition since Fernandes' debut (February 2020).

Spanish Supercopa

1

This is the first time that Real Madrid have won a single-game final against Athletic Bilbao after losing the previous five, all in the Copa del Rey (1916, 1939, 1933, 1943 and 1958).

1, 5, 20

This is Carlo Ancelotti's 20th title as a head coach, his 5th as a Real Madrid manager and first Supercopa triumph. He is the first Italian manager ever to lift the trophy.

12

Real Madrid now have 12 Supercopa de Espana titles. That's the 2nd most in competition history, after Barcelona 13.

23

This was Marcelo's 23rd title as a Real Madrid player. That ties the great Paco Gento for most in club history.

24

Karim Benzema has scored 24 goals this season across all competitions. Only Robert Lewandowski has more (34!) among players in Europe's top 5 leagues.

BUNDESLIGA

16

Speaking of Lewandowski, he scored his 16th Bundesliga hattrick on Sunday. He's second in the all-time list of Bundesliga hattricks, behind Gerd Muller's frankly ridiculous tally of 32.

66

Bayern Munich have now scored in 66 consecutive games, a new record for the Bundesliga. (The previous record of 65 was held by Bayern themselves, from 2012-14).

149

If you thought Ederson's clean sheet numbers were impressive... Sunday was Manuel Neuer's 149th clean sheet in 300 matches for Bayern Munich in the league.

150

Thomas Muller now has 150 assists in league play. Since his debut in Aug 2008, only Lionel Messi (180) has recorded more.

300

Robert Lewandowski has become just the second player in the history of the Bundesliga to reach 300 goals, with Gerd Muller (365 goals) the first.

Lewandowski is the 7th player to reach 300 career top-flight goals in a single league among Europe's Top 5 Leagues all-time. The others being Muller, of course, along with Jimmy Greaves, Dixie Dean and Steve Bloomer in England, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in Spain.

2000

Erling Haaland scored Borussia Dortmund's 2000th Bundesliga goal this weekend. They are the second team to reach this landmark, after Bayern (2629).

LIGUE 1

6

Kylian Mbappe has scored at least 10 goals in each of the last 6 Ligue 1 seasons, no other player has done so more than 3 times over that period.

Messi Ronaldo watch

An injury kept Cristiano Ronaldo out of Manchester United's draw at Villa Park, while Lionel Messi continues to recover from COVID-19.
